Yuri Suzuki is an artist who relies very heavily on the technology and the implications of our modern society. His work uses sound as the most common medium. He has many pieces that use vinyl as the housing of this sound. My favorite of these pieces is “The Sound of the Earth,” in which a spherical record is produced and the lines of the record are clips and sounds taken from different countries and continents.

However the my favorite of his pieces is “Boom.” “Boom” is about the radiation that is manmade, i.e. ionizing radiation, or the harmful kind. This piece of art selects a point of interest, measure the level of radiation there and then plays a sound that equals that level of radiation. For example, if it were to select Corner Brook, Canada, it would play a high noise, making it harder to hear, however if a place like Chernobyl were selected it would play a more audible lower noise, making it more perceptible, and stronger, you might even be able to feel it.
